Canada Food Day – host a local food BBQ!

Mark the July 31st down in your planner as “Canada Food Day”. This is Anita Stewart’s 8th annual coast to coast BBQ where local and regional food is the guest of honour.  Click here for more information.

Local berries, beef, cheese and eggs: oh my!

Savour Ottawa encourages everyone to embrace local products this summer

Summer is a time for sunshine, BBQ's, berries and good food all around.  No one appreciates beautiful summer weather more than people in the Ottawa area, so as we plan our barbecues, beach parties, cottage weekends and Canada Day parties, consider incorporating local meats, fruits, vegetables and more into the celebration!

Savour Ottawa encourages everyone to embrace local products this summer

Summer is a time for sunshine, BBQ’s, berries and good food all around.  No one appreciates beautiful summer weather more than people in the Ottawa area, so as we plan our barbecues, beach parties, cottage weekends and Canada Day parties, consider incorporating local meats, fruits, vegetables and more into the celebration!  And if you plan on eating out, or sitting on a patio to soak up the beautiful weather, be sure to frequent Savour Ottawa member restaurants, all of whom are supporting local farmers.

The Berries are Early!
Due to the warm April and May, strawberries and raspberries are ripening early this year.  Be sure to get out and pick yours up – you don’t want to miss these fantastic little jewels.  Savour Ottawa restaurant members aren’t missing out, and restaurants such as the 42 Crichton Street Fine Foods and ZenKitchen are including local berries in everything from their pies to their sangrias.  See below for a listing of berry producers in this region.

Cheese & Eggs – a beautiful combination!
If there’s anything that French cooking has taught us, it’s that cheese and eggs work beautifully in harmony together. Long summer mornings and lazy afternoons are the perfect time to indulge in the easy delicacy of local cheeses and eggs. For a taste of local Bekings Eggs, visit Restaurant Eighteen,  Beckta Dining + Wine, and the Crowne Plaza hotel’s Café 101. Bekings Eggs combined with the cheese from the cheese producers listed below are perfect for omelets, sandwiches with spicy arugula or a flavourful quiche.
