“The eye of the master fattens the ox,” a maxim often proclaimed by Debbie's Grandfather, Borden Hutchings, still resonates today in the practices at Hutchings Homestead. The on-site beehives - under Debbie's watchful eye - house descendants of the original colonies initiated 100 years ago and they thrive on nearby fields of saved-seed clover. The family also demonstrates a commitment to heritage with the farm's flock of Dorset Horn Sheep, an endangered breed, and the vintage variety Rhode Island Red hens. Daughters Melissa, Kim and Marcie proudly represent the 6th generation of Hutchings on their homestead spread that was established 180 years ago.
