Award-winning sommelier Stephen Beckta opened Beckta dining and wine in 2003. Fine dining without intimidation is an expressed philosophy; it’s evident in his expertise and that of Executive Chef Michael Moffat. It’s also visible in the competent informed staff chosen to greet and serve their guests.

Committed to obtaining the best and most flavourful ingredients, Michael strongly supports local organic farmers who supply up to 80 percent of the kitchen's fresh produce requirements during the growing season; occasionally even acquiring an excess which is preserved for use in the off-season. “My goal is to showcase the purity and uniqueness of flavour of individual ingredients, which are prepared with great care for our guests,” says Michael. Locally raised meat and game are also frequently featured on the menu.

Michael discloses that his first cooking job was at McDonald’s when he was 14, and although other careers beckoned, he finally pursued an undeniable passion for cooking, first at Algonquin College, then through on-the-job experience in Canadian and U.S. restaurants.
